Vale Dr David Hollands

Author and long term VWSG member Dr David Hollands passed away on Thursday 12th June.

Doctor, Naturalist, Writer and Wildlife Photographer, David Hollands was born in England and educated at Oundle School and Birmingham University. David and Margaret (deceased) came to Australia in 1961 and settled in Orbost in Gippsland. In 2015, he was awarded an OAM for services to rural medicine and ornithology.

David had a great love for wildlife photography and birds, and produced a range of fantastic books. Together with the late Clive Minton, a childhood friend (deceased 2019) he spent many happy photographic expeditions to Broome in WA, Corner Inlet and Western Port in Victoria and a number of sites in South Australia. 2019 also visited area in North Queensland, NSW and Victoria. The book provides a comprehensive account of all the 80 species found in Australia and has over 300 wonderful photographs.

“Waders: The Shorebirds of Australia” is a book by David Hollands, with contributions from Clive Minton published in 2012, Bloomings Books/Green Book Company. (out of print).
