VWSG has a partnership with Professor Marcel Klaassen and his research laboratory in the Centre for Integrative Ecology. at Deakin University This partnership has been highly rewarding with Deakin researchers bringing to wader monitoring skills in analysis, embedding VWSG work into ecological and biological theory, and capacity to expose shorebird research more broadly to both government and public. The VWSG contributes to the university’s research a deep field-based knowledge of waders, and a skilled and enthusiastic catching team essential to many research projects.

This partnership has resulted in over 10 years of geolocator data generated and analysed from six small- to medium-sized wader species, the most notable being Ruddy Turnstone.
